History

In 2019, Houston PetSet partnered with volunteers from PRSA Houston to discuss how to decrease the overwhelming number of homeless animals in shelters and on the streets in the region. Although the group agreed that promoting spaying and neutering as the ultimate solution to this problem could help, they realized many people want these services, but struggle to find the free and low-cost assistance they need. It made no sense to create more demand for a service in short supply.

Instead, they decided to create an educational tool that informs the public about our regional animal welfare crisis and reaches those that have the power to end it – pet owners and animal advocates. Since then, dozens of animal welfare groups have offered feedback to define responsible ownership and identify resources needed to achieve it.

Give Our Pets A Hand creates a centralized location where residents of Greater Houston can find information on responsible ownership, resources to help care for pets, and links to organizations where residents can help pets in need by adopting, fostering, volunteering and advocating. We will continue expanding the website content and capabilities with input from the community.

Together, we can create better lives for Greater Houston animals and the people who love them. Will you help to Give Our Pets A Hand?
