Special Pals is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization founded in 1979. Our mission is to save as many animal lives in Houston as possible in cooperation with local rescue organizations. We empower our community to support animal health and safety, and we envision the day when Houston is the Gold Standard for animal welfare.
We are open for adoptions Wednesday-Sunday, 12:00pm-4:00pm. We invite you to walk through the kennels and the Catio to see our dogs and cats who are looking for their forever homes. Our staff will help you meet your new best friend and get to know them, plus learn their history.
Foster volunteers are essential to helping more dogs and cats find homes. If you want to help Special Pals save more animals, we’d love to add you to the team! We provide support, medical care, food, and supplies to every foster.
Volunteer opportunities inside the shelter include transport, cleaning, clinic assistance, and administrative activities. Groups are welcome to volunteer at Special Pals!
